Overall, only 1.8% of the vegetative hits were from noxious species. Eighteen
perennial grasses, two perennial (orbs, two shrubs, one perennial sedge, and one
perennial rush were encountered during sampling.
The success standard requires that at least four cool-season grasses be
present in the reclaimed community with a relative cover between 3 and 40%.
Overall, no species exceeded 40% relative cover on the site. The most dominant
species was ELIN at 19.9%, or 22.8% if the cover of ELINB (Elytrigia.
intermedia ssp. barbulata) is added. (ELINB is classified as a subspecies of ELIN
according to Dr. Weber but is often considered to be a separate species, Pubescent
wheatgrass.) Six other grasses and one shrub also have relative covers between 3
and 40%. They include LECI, POPR, BRIM, PASK ELREP, PHARU
(Phalaroides arundinacea), and CHNA (Chrysothammrs nauseosus). Thus, the
success standard is exceeded by three cool-season grasses (almost double the 4
species standard). If Jensen and Rienau property were examined separately from
each other, seven grasses would qualify on the Jensen property while six grasses
(and one shrub) would qualify on the Rienau property. This indicates that.there
was not an important difference in terms of the diversity success standard between
property owned by one person versus another. In fact, as Table 6 demonstrates,
each individual area had at least four perennial species with a relative diversity
exceeding 3%, indicating that a monoculture has not resulted in any portion of the
disturbed area.
1101" : ::•kfi'•' y.k ; .yam<::.?:.:::•tu `y'•'<.?dvS<f `:',vf• 'r.:' +,c•?.s;;asrtt.:Y'Yfrti :a:r+c". At 2497 pounds per acre of perennial, non-noxious
production (Table 8), down by over 1000 pounds per acre from the 1995 value,
9
