CONCLUSIONS
The reclaimed areas associated with the Meeker Area mines were sampled for
cover and production in preparation for a Phase III bond release request. The present
study represents the first year of data collection in a two year process. Perennial, non-
noxious vegetation exceeds the success thresholds for both total cover and herbaceous
productivity. The vegetation is predominantly perennial, and noxious weeds have been
controlled to contribute only marginal amounts. Species diversity is extremely high,
though forbs and shrubs fall below the standard's expectations. This may be due to the
intensive weed control that has taken place. Even so, one forb exceeds the 3 %
minimum and two other shrub/forb species are not far off. Shrub density was not
addressed in this study as the success standard is expected to be released or revised.
11
