10
IV. Operation and Reclamation Measures
Reclamation
a) Schedule
Drill sites and drill roads will be reclaimed within 12 months of the time when
they are judged no longer necessary for continuing exploration or development
operations. This delay is necessary to permit re-grading and seeding the
reclaimed sites and roads at an appropriate season so that seeds and plants will
thrive.
b) Methods
Drill sites and drill roads will be re-graded and re-contoured with equipment
appropriate to return the disturbed land as closely as possible to its original
contour. Topsoil, striped and saved at the initial disturbance of the site, will be
spread and re-contoured over the re-graded site. The sites and roads will be raked
to create a rough surface and promote natural seed collection and if necessary
reseeded by broadcasting an approved seed mix, and the soil will be compacted
over the seed with the tread or tires of the re-grading and re-contouring equipment
to help prevent soil erosion.
C) Soil Preparation and Fertilizer
The naturally occurring topsoil from the roads and drill sites will be stripped from
the sites and saved for reclamation. When the disturbed ground is reclaimed, the
topsoil will be spread back over the re-contoured surface and raked to create a
rough surface promote natural seed collection, then seeded by broadcasting.
Fertilizer will be spread with the seed-mix in approved amounts.
d) Methods of Planting
It is anticipated that disturbed areas can be re-vegetated by broadcasting an
approved seed mix in the amounts recommended by the BLM.
e) Seed Type and Mix
The type and mix of seeds of grasses, fortis, and other plants will be that
appropriate and approved to be consistent with the surrounding natural vegetation.
Seed mixtures to be used in reclamation after re-contouring and re-distribution of
topsoil will be selected at the recommendation of range and wildlife biologists
from the BLM Dolores Public Lands Office.
f) Monitoring
Photographic monitoring of the site before, during and after reclamation will be
undertaken to document the reclamation process at each site.
g) Reporting
A rehabilitation report documenting the reclamation will be supplied to the BLM
within 12 months of completing the drilling.
