• V. GEOLOGIC INVESTIGATIONS
All information related to geologic investigations performed.in
this borrow area have been included in the appendices. Logs of
all explorations are included in Appendix A. Drawings included
in Appendix B show the location of explorations. Cross sections
and test trench profiles include stick logs from most of the
explorations. Test data from samples obtained during exploration
are summarized in Appendices C and D, and related petrographic
reports performed by private firms are included in Appendix E.
A. INVESTIGATIONS BY PRIVATE FIRMS
Previous investigations by private firms consisted of
petrographic analysis on riprap material obtained from the
existing Wheeler pit located on the north end of Borrow Area B.
Petrographic analysis included in by binocular
microscope, sodium sulfate soundness, Los Angeles Abrasion,
specific gravity and absorption tests. This analysis was
performed by Lamhe-r-t-and..Associates.._for M. K. Ferguson, the
remedial action contractor for the Durango UMTRA (Uranium Mill
Tailings Remedial Action Project) site. The petrographic
analysis of hand samples was performed on samples representing
4,471.49 pounds of material. Results of the investigation are
presented in a letter..from Lambert and Associates to
M. K. Ferguson dated June 8, 1988, which is included in
Appendix E.
Additional investigations were performed on riprap material
obtained from the Wheeler Pit by Nielsons Inc., the Durango UMTRA
site sub-contractor. These investigations consisted of
• additional petrographic examination of hand specimens from a
460-pound sample. Data from this investigation are included in a
As-:.l mA, S 6LAC_(43-6aAvF-t_ 15
Weeminuche Construction Authority .µ (P" rr T - PAGE Z - 23
P.O. Box AA - Towaoc, CO 81334
is
