UA - Onshore Gas Number: CO-HSE-032
HSE Procedure Custodian: Colorado Operations
Spill Prevention, Control and Revision: 0
Countermeasure (SPCC) Plan Effective: January 2012
12.0 FACILITY DRAINAGE
12.1 Diked Storage Area Drainage
Drainage of accumulated storm water, snow melt, or other liquids from the storage facilities into
the containment areas will typically be controlled as follows:
• The preferred method of removal of accumulated storm water or snow melt will be by
natural dissipation (evaporation and percolation) provided that the accumulation does not
damage the equipment/structures or inhibit operations conducted within the containment
area or reduce the secondary containment capacity to an unacceptable level.
Accumulated water will be visually inspected for oil, oil product and/or chemical
contamination and discharged only if no contamination is observed. Any such discharges
will be attended.
In the event that drainage of contaminated liquids (also including non-contaminated
water from areas which are not equipped with drain valves) from a containment area is
required, the use of a vacuum truck, pump or other means will be evaluated for the
removal. Any contaminated liquids will be disposed properly at an appropriate facility.
12.2 Storm Water Drainage Procedures
Containment area drainage procedures consist of:
• Primary: Natural dissipation of storm water and snow melt. The accumulation of storm
water and snow melt (including snow and ice) will not be allowed to significantly impact
containment capacity or the operations of facilities within the containment area.
• Secondary: Storm water and snow melt will flow down gradient via ditches to an incised
retention pond on the East RDD site.
Emergency Conditions Only: Drainage of contaminated liquids will be handled with
vacuum trucks, pumps or other means. Contaminated liquids will not be drained to the
ground.
Other than the procedures identified in this section, storm water is not treated at the Facility.
Printed: April 7, 2011 Section 12 Page 39 of 71
The controlled version of this "controlling document" resides online in Livelink®. Printed copies are UNCONTROLLED.
