The original plan was approved on May
20, 2002 and it was most recently approved in a letter dated December 18, 2009. The required
fee of $257 for the renewal of this SWSP has been submitted (receipt number 3647959).
Plan Operation
It is estimated that 300,000 cubic yards (approximately 400,000 tons) of sand and gravel
resource remain at the site. For the purposes of this SWSP, mining is projected to occur at a
maximum rate of 45,000 tons/month from November 2010 through June 2011. All mining will be
accomplished using a dry mining method. The mining plan originally included a rinse water
lagoon, however the lagoon is no longer used and the only exposed ground water at the site
during active mining is a dewatering trench with an exposed surface area of 1 acre.
The dewateting trench extends from the interior of the gravel mine to the Henderson
Water Ski Lake (WDID 0203313, "Ski Lake"), a reclaimed and unlined gravel pit. Evaporative
losses from the Ski Lake are augmented under Division 1 Water Court case no. 82CW393
(WDID 0202511). According to the plan, based on site observations of the Ski Lake, no
significant increase in evaporation will occur from the lake as a result of discharging water from
the mine site to the Ski Lake. The water from the gravel mine is discharged through Brighton's
124th Avenue augmentation line to the South Platte River. Brighton has agreed to the continued
use of the 124th Avenue augmentation line from November 1, 2010 through June 2011.
Other consumptive uses at the site include dust control and water removed in the mined
product, as well as evaporation of exposed ground water while the mine is inactive prior to
IV,
Office of the State Engineer
1313 Sherman Street, Suite 818 • Denver, CO 80203 • Phone: 303-866-3581 • Fax: 303-866-3589
http://water.state.co.us
