TRANSIT MIX AGGREGATES
April 29, 2011
Mine Land Reclamation Board
Attn: Mr. Berhan Keffelew
Colorado Division of Reclamation Mine and Safety
1313 Sherman St., Suite 212
Denver CO 80203
RE: M-1977-211 Pike View Quarry
- - --, _ Dear-Mr- -.Keffeleww:
This letter is to request an extension to the deadline for Continental Materials
Corporation d.b.a. Transit Mix Concrete, Castle Concrete ("Continental"), to submit an
amended reclamation and mining plan for the Pike View Quarry (referenced above) as
required under DRMS's June 11, 2009 and July 7, 2010 Orders ("DRMS Orders"). We
would like to appear before the DRMS Board at its May 11-12, 2011 meeting to
demonstrate our progress regarding compliance with the DRMS's Orders, present our
current findings, and seek the extra time to complete additional investigation regarding
the stability of the core of the mountain. The proposed extension would be until May 13,
2012.
The additional investigation is in response to recent changes we have observed at or near
the top of the mine. A section of the mountain behind the limestone has shifted
substantially in January and February of this year. The area is 3,000 to 4,000 square feet
in size and the displacement is 12-15 vertical feet. This significant movement has raised
our concern and directly affects Continental's preparation of the amended reclamation
and mining plan.
The additional time will also allow us the time necessary to secure the right of entry from
the U.S. Forest Service to the adjoining National Forest Service land west of the slide
area. We are looking to expand our current right of entry by approximately ten acres.
Any questions, please contact myself or Jerald Schnabel at 719-475-0700.
Sincerely,
M. L.
