Third Adequacy Letter, Amended CN-01 I 6
May Day Idaho Mine Complex
• Please avoid the splitting of small areas onto multiple maps. Please combine
Figures F-4 and F-4A onto one map. Please show the entire 8.2 acres of
reclaimed lands for the Pay Day and Idaho claims on one map.
• Figure F-4A indicates an 11 foot highwall at 1H:1V slope, which is in conflict with
the 2H:1V slope described in the reclamation plan.
• Figure F-5 shows a shed and an outhouse, not discussed in the reclamation plan.
• Figure F-5a redirects the Division to a different map for details of the final
configuration of the reclaimed area. Figure F-5a covers an area of 0.3 acres and
the 11 inch by 17 inch paper for Figure F-5a provides sufficient space to show the
final configuration of the reclaimed area. Please show the final configuration of
the entire Chief Portal area on the reclamation map, as required under Rule
6.4.6(a).
Figure F-5a indicates a 40+ foot highwall at 0.4H:1V, which is in conflict with the
1.5H:1V slope described in the reclamation plan.
11. The amended application includes approximately 32 maps, yet many of the existing and
proposed mine features are not shown correctly. Figure D-1 attempts to provide some
details for the mine plan at the May Day 1 level but incorrectly labels the mill facility as
"Storage", incorrectly locates the two water tanks, and shows contour lines on top of
the structures. Please revise Figure D-1 to correct these inadequacies. Please provide
similar scale maps to support the mine plan for each of the areas of affected lands.
Please correctly locate the major mine features, including but not limited to all
underground mine openings, mine benches, material stockpile areas, the proposed mill
facility, and any structures utilized to support the mining and milling operation. Please
submit detailed and correct maps, which are compliant with the basic map
requirements of Rule 6.2.1(2), and clearly delineate and label the existing and proposed
mine features.
12. The Division had previously requested a surface map which identifies the glory hole,
associated with the May Day 1 workings, and other pre-permit mine features associated
with the historic May Day and Idaho mines. The Applicant's response affirmed the glory
hole, and other pre-permit mine features, were located on several of the submitted
maps. The glory hole is not identified on any map. Please submit a surface map which
delineates and labels the glory hole, associated with the May Day 1 workings, and other
pre-permit mine features associated with the historic May Day and Idaho mines. Such
information is essential in identifying all locations whereby precipitation may enter the
underground locations proposed for disposal of mill tailings, waste rock, and debris from
the dismantled mill facility.
13. The Division had previously requested maps of the underground workings, labeling all
locations proposed for underground disposal of waste rock and mill tailings. The
Applicant's response directed the Division to Figure D-1a for such map. The submitted
information did not include a Figure D-1a, but there was a Figure D-113. Figure D-113
attempts to show the underground locations for tailings disposal but the map is not
legible. Please submit a legible Figure D-113.
