PERMIT #: M-1985-040
INSPECTOR'S INITIALS: JLE
INSPECTION DATE: April 25, 2011
OBSERVATIONS
This was a joint monitoring inspection with the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) and the Colorado Division
of Reclamation, Mining and Safety (DRMS) of the Seifert Pit; DRMS File No. M-1985-040 operated by Seifert
Construction. This site is located approximately 11 miles southeast of Westcliffe, Colorado in Custer County.
Jared Ebert with the DRMS and Stephanie Carter of the BLM conducted the inspection. Mr. Keith Baker and
Joni Johnson of Seifert Construction accompanied us on the inspection.
This is a 17.34 acre 112c mining operation for sand and gravel. The mine entrance sign was in place at the
entrance to the pit, and the affected land boundary was marked with metal posts. The site is located on top of
a terrace above a water channel. The excavation consists of a small 4 acre bowl shaped pit excavation that
daylights to the south. Topsoil has been stripped and is located in stockpiles adjacent to the excavation. The
site and stockpiles appear stable.
