PERMIT #: M-2001-056
INSPECTOR'S INITIALS: JLE
INSPECTION DATE: April 26, 2011
OBSERVATIONS
This was an acreage reduction (AR01) inspection of the Belveal Gravel Pit; DRMS File No. M-2001-056,
operated by Elbert County. This site is located approximately 16 miles south of Matheson, Colorado in Elbert
County. I, Jared Ebert of the Colorado Division of Reclamation, Mining and Safety conducted the inspection.
Mr. Ted Doll of Elbert County accompanied me on the inspection.
This is currently a 9.9 acre 110c mining operation for gravel. The Operator requested a release of .94 acres of
the permit area from the southern portion of the site. This was done in order to apply the .94 acres of land to
the access road on the eastern side of the site. The County has submitted an amendment application to add
these .94 acres back into the permit area. The current 9.9 acre permit boundary is marked with survey posts
and metal caps. The Operator will need to change the location of the southern boundary markers to delineate
the new permit boundary. The area to be released has not been affected by the mining operation and
contains native grassland. Several historic drainage control berms un-related to the mining operation are in
place within the acreage reduction area.
Given the .94 acres of the permit area have not been affected by the mining operation; the Division will
approve the acreage reduction request (AR01). The approval of the acreage reduction will be addressed
under a separate letter from the Division.
