2.05.4(2) Ic) Backfilling and Grading
• Spoil and overburden from the first pit in Area 1
and the first pit in Area 2 will be excavated and placed off the
coal in temporary spoil piles 1 and 2 respectively. After the
removal of all recoverable coal from the first pit, the overbur-
den and other spoil material from the second pit will be back-
filled into the first pit. Spoil from the temporary spoil piles
will be placed in the last pit in the respective mining areas.
Regrading will commence with the progression of
the next pit beyond the first pit. After the removal of all
recoverable coal from the first pit, the overburden and other
spoil material from the second pit will be backfilled into the
first pit. Backfilled material will be handled by scrapers or
other rubber tired or tracked equipment, and will be compacted
and stabilized as it is handled. Any necessary grading will be
done by dozers with finish work done by motor graders or pull
type scrapers. Regrading will continue from pit to pit with the
overburden and spoil material from the advancing pit being placed
in the mined out adjacent pit. SauK-h_=bs.okfilling and grading
shall be completed within 180 days following coal removal and
will not be more than four spoil ridges behind the pit being
worked, the spoil from the active pit being considered the first
pit.
~ The last. pit in each of the two mining areas is a
concern with regard to achieving approximate original contours.
• In each case the plan is to load haul and place the spoil pile
from the first pit into the last pit of the respective mining
area.
The tabulation in section 2.05.3(61 shows the
spoil volume and void volume for each pit. It can be seen from
this tabulation that the spoil from the first pit in each mining
area will provide adequate backfill material for the last pit in
the respective mining area. The material balance from one pit to
the adjacent pit can also be determined.
• 2.05-21 May 1991
