2.04.10 <br />The disturbed grassland community has probably resulted from <br />the combination of fairly intensive herbicide exposure and in- <br />creased livestock use. The dominant species in this community is <br />sand dropseed, which is believed to have been seeded by the <br />owner. <br />Historically the proposed permit area has been used as <br />grazing land for domestic livestock. Because of the absence of <br />any restrictive fences, wildlife species such as deer, elk, and <br />small mammals have also utilized the area. This area was grazed <br />heavily by wild horses up until their total removal by the BLM in <br />1985. <br />An irrigation project partially developed in the area was <br />abandoned early in its history because of the lack of a depend- <br />able source of irrigation water and this area reverted back to <br />range land. <br /> <br />• 2.04-30 July 1991 <br />
