Pineda <br />Director <br />RE: Twentymile Coal Company, Permit C-82-056 <br />First Quarter Discharge Monitoring Report Review (Permit COG0027154, COG-003684, <br />COG-0042161, COG-850054, and COG-850051) <br />Dear Mr. Watterson, <br />The Colorado Division of Reclamation, Mining, and Safety (CDRMS) has reviewed and found the <br />above referenced reports to be in compliance with Rule 4.05.13(2). The First Quarter Discharge <br />Monitoring Reports for the above referenced CDPS Permits were received by the Division on 03 May <br />2011; the reports cover the time period from 01 January 2011 through 31 March 2011. <br />Permit CO-0027154 - During the month of March outfalls 005A/MON5/005W (Pond D), 003A (Pond <br />B), and 008A (Pond G) flowed. No other outfalls flowed during the quarter. Exceedances were noted <br />at 005A for TSS and iron. WET tests were collected for only Outfall 005W as 007W did not flow <br />during the quarter. Please note: <br />• The WET tests report indicated that toxicity to Ceriodaphnia dubia was tested. It is the <br />Division understands that toxicity to Daphina magna is required at 005W. Please provide <br />information as to the organism discrepancy. <br />Permit CO-0036684 - Outfall 001A/001 W/MON1 (Site 62) discharged throughout the quarter with no <br />exceedances noted. Whole Effluent Toxicity tests were collected for analysis during the quarter. The <br />tests indicated that the effluent was not acutely toxic to Ceriodaphnia dubia or Pimephales promelas. <br />Permit CO-0042161 - Outfall 002A (sites 300E and 3001) discharged during the quarter. No <br />exceedances were noted. Outfalls 001A/00 1W/MON1 (site 115) discharged, inadvertently for <br />approximately 1 day during the quarter. Whole Effluent Toxicity tests were collected for analysis <br />during the quarter at Site 115. The tests indicated that the effluent was not acutely toxic to <br />Ceriodaphnia dubia. <br />Permit COG-850051 - Outfall 001/OOW (6MN Pond) did not discharge during the quarter. <br />Permit COG-850051 - Outfall 001A (18LT Pond) did not discharge during the quarter. <br />Office of Office of <br />Mined Land Reclamation Denver • Grand Junction • Durango Active and Inactive Mines
