Pond 016 Slide Remediation Plan
Page S
14. In the Typical Rock Underdrain section, the geotextile brand name is misspelled. Please
revise "Marif " to read "Mirafi ".
Response: The spelling has been corrected.
15. In the current version of the permit, Roads J and K are detailed on separate maps. Once
Road JIK has been reconstructed with TR-73, the as-built maps in the permit will need to
be updated to show the final configuration(s) of the Road.
Response: The as-built maps will be updated as required after construction.
16. A comparison of the existing topography (Exh. 20-D.1) with the Post Mine topography
(Exh. 20-D. 2) reveals that a large embankment is proposed for construction to the NNW of
the realigned PM-2 channel. A graphic depiction of this embankment is provided on the
attached map, a rough compilation of 20-D.1 contours and features onto the 20-D.2 map.
This embankment ranges in height from 10 to 25 feet, and is not discussed in the TR-73
application. No source of fill material is identified. Please review the post mine contours
propose for this location, and revise or clarify as necessary.
Response: Please note that no "embankments" or "structural fills" are being constructed
anywhere with this remediation plan. The areas referred to by the Division are simply areas
where materials excavated during the slide remediation will be placed onto previously graded
spoils within areas previously mined.
17. The post mine topography described in paragraph a, above, would also appear to require
the construction of an additional channel, identified in green on the attached map
compilation. This drainage has not been addressed in the application, and the Division
observes that directing surface flow toward Pond 016 slide area would be counter-
productive. Please review the surface drainage patterns for this area and modify as
necessary.
Response: The entire watershed is <4 acres. SCC has revised the proposed PMT in this area
and will install an 18" culvert under Road J/K to drain any potential runoff away from the
reconstructed slide area. An 18" culvert is significantly oversized, but reduces the possibility of
plugging with trash during spring runoff.
18. On Section A-A', please identify the location where Section B-B' intersects this section
Sta. 2+30) and the locations of the proposed underdrains.
Response: Section A-A' has been revised.
19. On Section B-B', Please identify the location where Section A-A' intersects this section
Sta. 2+08).
Seneca Coal Company* P.O.
