Stadjuhar
Re: Renewal Request for Substitute Water Supply Plan for Transit Mix Concrete Company's
Grisenti Pit, Pursuant to 37-90-137(1'1) in Water Division No. 2.
Dear Heidi:
This letter constitutes a renewal request for a Substitute Water Supply Plan (SWSP) on behalf of our
client Transit Mix Concrete Company (Transit Mix) for their Grisenti Farms Gravel Pit aggregate
operations (M-2001-005) located near Florence, Colorado in the Arkansas River basin (Water
Division,2) pursuant to Section 37-90-137 (11), C.R.S. We are also submitting a check for $257 with
this application in order to cover the cost of the review of the SWSP renewal. This renewal follows the
same terms and conditions set forth in the previous SWSP request submitted in our letter dated
January 5, 2010 and approved on June 30, 2010.
PROJECT DESCRIPTION
Transit Mix has a lease agreement with the Grisenti's to mine sand and gravel from approximately 100
acres of land along the Arkansas River east of Florence (Section 13, Township 19 South, Range 69
West), as shown in Figure 1. The mining operation is divided into two phases. Phase 1 involved the
mining of approximately 35 acres located east of Highway 115 and west of Brush Hollow Creek which
has been completed and serves as a settling pond. Transit Mix is currently in Phase 2 of the operation.
The Grisenti Farms Gravel Pit (Grisenti Pit) causes depletions to the Arkansas River by exposing
ground water to evaporation, removing ground water in the mined material, and using ground water
for dust control purposes. The depletions are being replaced by Lester-Attebery Ditch irrigation
credits and Twin Lakes Reservoir releases.
