Dear Tony:
On behalf of Lafarge West, Inc. (Lafarge), I am writing to respond to the Division Hof Reclamation,
Mining, and Safety (DBMS) letter sent to Lafarge on April 30, 2010 regarding mining operations
with exposed groundwater. The specific mining operations listed' above do not currently expose
groundwater, but do anticipate exposing groundwater at some point in the future. In the case of the
Duckworth Pit, Lafarge does not anticipate exposing groundwater for at least two, years for the
Parsons Mine; Lafarge does not anticipate exposing groundwater for at least-four years.
Because groundwater at these sites is not currently exposed and will not be exposed for a number of
years, Lafarge believes that no further action is required at this time. Prior to exposing groundwater,.
Lafarge will identify a method to maintain compliance for these sites, be it a,decreed augmentation
plan, increased bond for lining and/or backfilling, or some other solution.
