April 27, 2011
Ms. Tania Watson
Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment
Water Quality Control Division - Permits and Enforcement
4300 Cherry Creek Drive South
Denver, CO 80222-1530
Phone: (303) 692-3603
RE: PERMIT COG-073534: MARCH 2011 DMR SUBMITTAL
Dear Ms. Watson:
Twentymile Coal Company
29515 Routt County Road # 27
Oak Creek, Colorado 80467
(970) 879-3800
Outfall 001 A (a portion of Foidel Creek located downstream of a pipeline crossing) the last three weeks of the
month. Flow along the Creek was estimated using an existing Gage Station, however the accuracy may be in'
question due to snow and ice buildup along the Creek.
Two exceedances were noted for Total Suspended Solids (TSS), for the maximum (97 mg/L vs 45 mg/L) and 30
day average (46.2 mg/L vs 30 mg/L). Note that TSS for the last week in March had dropped to 21 mg/L. The
elevated values are attributable to natural high flow erosion along Foidel Creek during initial snow melt, and not
from the pipeline construction back in December 2010. Historical data on Foidel Creek immediately upstream of
001A indicates that elevated TSS values are typical during snow melt. I will be submitting a request to terminate
this permit.
Best regards,
Brian A.
