SSS
fl?uJ
RECEIVED
28 2G`ii
PivAsion of Reclamation,
Win & Safety
This letter is in regards to the Division of Reclamation, Mining and Safety letter dated April 30, 2010 addressing
the issue of exposure of groundwater at sand and gravel mining operations.
At the present time Montrose County's mining operations consist of open ended excavations of terraced
deposits in which seeps or springs are encountered. The water exposed during the mining operation is directed
away from the excavation and back into the stream system, or immediately percolated back to the subsurface.
The water is not retained by ponding and/or left exposed to atmospheric evaporation in such a manner as to
result in increased depletions to the stream system.
We have contacted the Division of Water Resources - Water Division 4 regarding the mitigation of the
groundwater at our facilities. Based on conversations with DWR regarding the handling of the groundwater we
are not required to obtain a well permit. (See enclosed DWR letter dated April 7, 2011)
- - - -- In-addition-we are not required to submit an augmentation or-substitute water supply-plan:
Please contact me if you have any questions.
Respectfully,
4?4 2, S)
Debra Veo
Safety & Regulatory Compliance Manager
enc
c.c.
