The situation was
essentially the same as it was in 2010.
Annual Report Maps: Enclosed are three color maps showing the primary areas of disturbance and the type
of disturbance occurring in each area. Map 1 shows the entire site and is primarily a guide map. Map 2 includes
the Main Quarry portion and Map 3 shows the information for the Cut Stone Quarry area. For details of
acreages please see the maps. These maps are the same as they were last year due to the low amount of activity
that occurred and lack of creating new disturbances.
Affected Lands: The amount of affected land in the operation is the same as last year.
Revegetation: Past revegetation efforts continued to showed good progress. One area that was two years ago
continues to show excellent growth and development is in the direction of older revegetation areas. All areas or
revegetation show a low incidence of weeds, high density grass, and excellent vigor. However, weeds have
expanded some in disturbed areas around the quarries and along the roadways. The two main species of
concern are knapweed, which mainly occurs along the transportation routes and Canada Thistle in scattered
patches around the quarry areas. A few other thistles of the genus Circium were also noted. Knapweed along the
roads are related to larger populations on the property, but, with a few exceptions, the surrounding property has
a lower than expected occurrence of knapweed. Good weed control in the past has helped contain this species.
A plan was prepared to treat these areas this year.
Expected Activity (2011/2012): It is not known how much activity will occur in the next year. The current
state of the economy and demand for aggregate continues to be low. It is possible that near the end of the year
a small amount of expansion of the Main Quarry will occur and will move a short ways to the south toward the
permit boundary. The actual working face is currently approaching the south end of the disturbed land at the
main quarry. Whether this will occur or not depends on the demand for rock and estimates of future demand.
M-1989-065 Winkler Light Aggregate Quarry
Schmidt Construction Company 2011 Annual Report Page 1 of 1
