STATE OF COLORADO
DIVISION OF RECLAMATION, MINING AND SAFETY
Department of Natural Resources
1313 Sherman St., Room 215
Denver, Colorado 80203
Phone: (303) 866-3567
FAX: (303) 832-8106
April 26, 2011
Jerry Nettleton
Twentymile Coal Company
29515 Routt County Road No. 27
Oak Creek, CO 80467
RE: Foidel Creek Mine, Permit C-82-056
First Quarter 2011 Coal Waste Pile Inspection Report
Dear Mr. Nettleton,
The Colorado Division of Reclamation, Mining, and Safety (CDRMS) have found the above
referenced report to be in compliance with CDRMS Regulations: 4.09.1(11) and 4.10.2(2).
COLORADO
D I V I S ION OF
RECLAMATION
MINING
SAFETY
John W. Hickenlooper
Governor
Mike King
Executive Director
Loretta E. Pineda
Director
The above referenced report was prepared by North West Colorado Consultants (NWCC) for
Twentymile Coal Company. NWCC visited the site on January 4, 2011 and on March 31, 2011.
Based on the report, NWCC noted shallow erosion channels on the lower bench on the east side of the
refuse pile that should be addressed in order to curb further erosion. No signs of instability, structural
weakness or hazardous conditions at the refuse pile. The report states that the wash plants produced
approximately 289,364 tons of waste coal. On January 4, 2011 a total of four compaction tests were
conducted at the west end of the new Expansion Area. All tests met the minimum compaction
requirement of 90% of the maximum standard Procter density.
As of the date of the report, no new stripping of topsoil and cover materials was conducted and no new
haul road construction had taken place.
Please note that the erosion identified in the report have yet to be repaired. It is NWCC's
recommendation that these small gullies be repaired to prevent further down cutting and erosion
of the pile.
If you have any questions feel free to contact me.
