Hickenlooper
Governor
Mike King
Executive Director
Loretta E. Pineda
Director
The Division of Reclamation, Mining and Safety (Division) appreciates the opportunity to
provide comments on the Site Specific Development Plan and Amended Special Review Permit
for Case No. AmUSR-1075. The Division has reviewed the application and offers the following
comments:
The Reclamation Permit was issued for the Greeley Pit in 1977 and the site is permitted for 170
acres. To date, no portion of the mine site has been released from reclamation responsibility. The
approved post-mining land use for the site is recreation, which allows the site to be utilized for
water skiing and camping. The simultaneous use of the site as an active mining operation and for
recreation purposes is not under the Division's jurisdiction. Any restrictions on concurrent land
uses would need to be addressed at the County level. The proposed changes to the Site Specific
Development Plan and the Amended Special Review Permit do not conflict with the Division's
interests. However, any changes made to the Mining and Reclamation Plan must be approved by
the Division through a Technical Revision. The changes would include the addition of an asphalt
and concrete batch plant, relocation of existing gas lines/wells, reconfiguration of the ponds, and
the addition of campsites and boat ramps around the north pond.
If you have any questions regarding the Division's comments, you may contact me at
(303)866-3567 x8116.
Sincerely,
Michael A.
