Peabody
Twentymile Coal, LLC
Mr. Daniel Hernandez
29515 Routt County Road #27
Oak Creek, CO 80467
970.879.3800
Senior Environmental Protection Specialist
Colorado Division of Minerals and Geology
1313 Sherman Street, Room 215
Denver, Colorado 80203
(303) 866 -3567 X8126
April 14, 2011
RE: Twentymile Coal, LLC - Foidel Creek Mine (Permit No. C -82 -056), Minor Revision (MR011-
253) for Western Mining District (WMD) Stabilization Boreholes
Dear Mr. Musick:
Twentymile Coal, LLC (TC) requests CDRMS approval of a Minor Revision (MR11 -253) to the
approved Permit, for activities related to stabilization of mine areas in the 17 -Left, Number 1 Entry
tailgate area of the current active 16 -Left Longwall panel. The activities proposed under this Minor
Revision application are necessary to address immediate safety and operational concerns associated with
localized ground stability issues.
The proposed activities will include;
• Establishment of temporary drainage and sediment control measures
• Soil material removal and placement in temporary stockpiles
• Construction of a short temporary access road
• Construction of a 200' x 300' drill pad
• Drilling and casing of 2 boreholes from the pad
• Set -up of a portable concrete batch plant on the existing 18 -Left Shaft Pad
• Extension of a temporary concrete transfer line on the ground surface between the batchplant and
the drill -site
• Pumping of concrete down the drillholes into the underground workings
• Plugging and sealing of the drillholes
• Reclamation and restoration of all related temporary surface disturbance
The location and configuration of the proposed activities are shown on Figure 49U -F1, WMD
Stabilization Boreholes. Due to safety and operational considerations, it anticipated that the proposed
activities would be initiated immediately on receipt of the required approvals. The proposed activities are
expected to occur over a period of approximately 3 -6 weeks, and it is anticipated that reclamation of all
associated temporary disturbance would be completed during the 2011 field season.
The short temporary access road and culvert provide direct access to the pad from the existing County
Road and has been located to minimize drainage concerns, the drill pad will be on a relatively flat bench,
drainage from the drill pad disturbance area will either be retained on the pad or controlled using
alternative sediment control measures, and, as short-term temporary disturbances, all disturbance areas
will be reclaimed. Associated reclamation requirements and costs will be limited to plugging and sealing
of the drillholes, and reclamation of the access road and temporary drill pad.
CADocuments and Settings \jhb\Local Settings \Temporary Internet Files\ Content .Outlook \F7H3ZTK7\MR11 -253 WMD
Stabilization Boreholes TL.doc
