TRAPPER MINING INC.
April 12, 2011
Mr. Robert Zuber, PE ??
Environmental Protection Specialist ?4
Colorado Division of Reclamation, Mining, and Safety
1313 Sherman Street, Room 215 ??Cv `?0 fi
Denver, CO 80203 ?`?b??.??a®*
Q ?
Dear Mr. Zuber:
RE: Trapper Mining Inc., Permit C-81-010
First Quarter 2011 Sediment Pond Inspections
Impoundment inspection results for the first quarter of 2011 are enclosed. All impoundment inspections
were conducted by a qualified impoundment inspector. Inspections took place January 25, February 8,
and March 15 and 28.
Maintenance items noted during the inspections were as follows:
1. Coyote has a few small animal burrows that need to be filled in.
Trapper will address this maintenance item in a timely manner.
Data related to pond capacity is attached. The last column on the table provides an estimate of the
remaining capacity in each pond where remaining capacity is defined as the volume remaining after
considering the estimated amount of sediment noted during the inspections.
Your letter dated February 28, 2011 commented on an apparent discrepancy between the observed
sediment in some ponds versus the amount of sediment listed in the pond capacity data table. Because
these are visual observations conducted by different personnel, with different environmental conditions
and water levels present, it is possible the table will depict more sediment than the field observation. This
is typically due to a higher percentage of sediment being reported in a previous quarter. I will not reduce
the estimated sediment unless a pond has been cleaned, or a lower sediment level is confirmed.
You also had a comment concerning the Industrial Waste Pond and its sediment level. Per Section
4.3.2.2 of Trapper's permit, the IWP is not a sediment control structure, though it is checked regularly.
Sediment is captured in concrete sumps in the wash bays in the shop area before the water is piped to
this impoundment. For this reason, sediment is not reported on the attached pond capacity data table.
Please contact me if you have any questions.
Sincerely,
Seth A.
