The cover comparison value for the mesic drainage and improved pasture - subirrigated
types will be determined from undisturbed areas of the two types within the permit area. This value
will be a weighted mean of the herbaceous cover for the two undisturbed vegetation types. The
weighted mean calculation procedure is as described above in the cover standard for reclaimed
uplands. The average vegetation cover in the reclaimed mesic drainage areas will be considered
acceptable if it is not less than 90 percent of the cover standard with 90 percent statistical confidence.
The weighting formula to be used for the mesic drainage cover evaluation is:
xrev> .90 (Dvm)(xMD) + ( IPSa (x►PS))
with 90 percent statistical confidence, where:
x rev = average vegetation cover, reclaimed area
MD = mesic drainage type percentage of the premining surface to be affected by mining
IPS = improved pasture - subirrigated premine type percentage affected by mining
x — average reference area all hit herbaceous cover -mesic drainage
RN -03 36 Revised 10/10
