The injected fluid should include a range
of petroleum products with a shorter carbon chain (C6-12) as in mineral spirits or gasoline in addition to
longer carbon chains (C 10-24) as in heating/fuel oil of our permit.
This lighter fluid will provide a better heat transfer from our electric heater to the oil shale formation.
Please note that the produced shale oil naturally contains significant quantities of mineral spirits, gasoline,
and heating/fuel oil. Our retorting and processing contemplates producing and recovering of all of these
petroleum fractions.
We will obtain the proper material directly from a refinery to be sure of its composition. We will use a
tracer as provided for in Section C. 5. of our permit.
We contemplate injecting this heat transfer fluid in late May; therefore, your prompt attention to this
request will be appreciated.
On another matter, following Part II Section A.3.(0 of our permit, the conveniently accessible location for
the attachment of a pressure gauge is tens of feet away from the wellhead, but still before any process
activities occur. Please concur that this location is acceptable.
Sincerely,
4141-e?
Roger L.
