The Golden Eagle vine has had only limited mine development. •
However, mine developnent has occurred under Windmill No. 6. The water
level (while pumping) in this well was 46.5 feet below the surface. The
fact that it is still functioning and no apparent seepage is occurring in
the mine at this location indicates that development mining has not
impacted this well. Additional mining at the Golden Eagle near the
Purgatoire River will not impact any domestic water users because they are
on city water. Well 15 is apparently spring fed and Well 16 is probably
completed in an upper coal seam. Mining the Apache Seam 200 to 300 feet
below these wells should not result in any significant impacts.
Water, waste and Land performed a hydrologic analyses on bedrock
and alluvial aquifers in the vicinity of the Golden Eagle and New Elk
nines. in this analyses, effects of mining on these aquifers were
estimated. It was determined that mining will have no impact on the
alluvial aquifer system. Therefore, the shallow wells identified in this
survey along with the Purgatoire River will not be impacted.

Since the highland windmills are believed to be oompleted in the
upper mal seams and not the Apache or Allen Seams, mining should not
impact these wells.
Lastly and most important, no water users were identified which
utilize the Apache and Allen Seams as aground water source.
•
~~~ I
~-~~~
2.04-24
