• All unconsolidated surficial deposits in the irtm~ediate RDA tce <br />region will be stripped to bedrock to provide for a fine foundation base. <br />2.04.7 Hydrology Description <br />(1) Groundwater Information <br />A detailed investigation of the groundwater hydrology for the <br />permit area and adjacent area of the New Elk Mine was conducted for CF&I by <br />Water, Waste and land. This report which discusses the location, quality <br />and quantity of water in the permit area is shown in Exhibit 8, Hydrology <br />and Geology Information. This investigation indicates that very little <br />groundwater is' present in the area which the New Elk Mine operation is <br />located. Drinking water supplies for residents of the area cane fran the <br />alluvial valley sources. Isolated higher production wells which are used <br />for irrigation are also located in the Pun7atoire Alluvium. <br />• Water User Survey <br />In response to Stipulation 10, WE'C completed a water user survey <br />on May 9- 10, 1984. The area surveyed included one mile surrounding the <br />New Elk and Golden Eagle permit boundaries. The purpose of this survey was <br />to supplement the survey previously completed by CF6I (see 6[hibit 11, <br />Water Well Information) and assess the potential effects of mining on the <br />quality and quantity of water in these wells. <br />Residents within the area of study were interviewed to determine <br />if wells for domestic or agricultural water supply existed. Windmills and <br />stock ponds were also inventoried during this survey. Information on <br />wells, windmills and stock ponds is provided in Tables 8 to 10, Results of <br />Well, Windmill and Stack Rind Surveys.
