CM0001679
Page 8 s
3.0 RESERVOIR BOTTOM MATERIAL INVESTIGATION SAP
The reservoir bottom material investigation SAP defines objectives and tasks for achieving a
representative sampling event based on sound statistical principles and provides guidance for all
field work by defining the sampling and data gathering methods to be used.
3.1 Reservoir Bottom Material Investigation Task Objective
The reservoir bottom material investigation consists of sampling material from the bottom of
Eagle Park Reservoir to demonstrate tailings removal. The investigation will also evaluate the
impact on the soils (if any) by the previously overlying tailings.
3.2 Sample Locations and Frequency
Figure 1 presents a sampling grid which was developed to provide representative sampling of the
materials on the reservoir bottom. A similar grid will be made on the reservoir bottom prior to
sampling. Thirty samples of the bottom material will be collected, one sample from within each
grid area. The grids are an average of two acres in area and cover the entire reservoir. Sample •
locations will be marked for surveying and photographs will be taken of the reservoir and each
sampling location. Locations will be identified with cards indicating sample designations.
Sample designations and locations will also be indicated on a map during the sampling event.
Sampling of the reservoir bottom will occur once in October or November 1996 after completion
of tailings removal from the reservoir. The 30 samples will be collected and half the samples
will be sent to the laboratory for analysis along with QA/QC samples, as shown in Table 1. The
15 samples to be sent to the laboratory for analysis will be determined using a checker board
pattern where a sample from every other grid area will be analyzed. The remaining samples will
be archived and no further analysis will be required. If results indicate detection above
acceptable limits for the analytes sampled, then additional definition is required and part or all of
the remaining 15 samples will be analyzed.
3.3 Sample Designation
Eagle Park Reservoir bottom material samples will be designated as follows: Sample ST01 will
be collected from the northwestern-most grid area and numbering will proceed from ST01
through ST30, from north to south completing each row, then proceeding by rows from west to
east.
C02075
PRIVILEGED AND CONFIDENTIAL
- - -
cvROM-Crs%iaxmivu 176107, ooq&znrvb) - Environmental
..
