CM0001672
0 SAMPLING AND ANALYSIS PLAN
EAGLE PARK RESERVOIR
CLIMAX MOLYBDENUM COMPANY
1.0 INTRODUCTION
This post reclamation Sampling and Analysis Plan (SAP) contains details of field activities to be
performed in 1996 and 1997, and subsequent analyses that will be used to confirm reclamation
project completion and water quality protection in the Eagle Park Reservoir. The purpose of the
SAP is to facilitate collection of representative samples and compilation of the data to
demonstrate reservoir water quality while providing a mechanism for planning and approving
field activities.
The key elements of this SAP include:
• Sampling of bottom material from Eagle Park Reservoir after excavation of the tailings is
complete to demonstrate effectiveness of tailings removal;
• Testing to show that the residual bottom materials in the reservoir are innocuous;
• Sampling of reservoir water during reservoir filling and operation to demonstrate attainment
of in-stream discharge standards as outlined in the "Colorado Department of Health Water
Quality Control Commission, Classifications and Numeric Standards for Upper Colorado
River Basin and North Platte River (Planning Region 12)", (Colorado Department of Health
Water Quality Control Commission, 1994);
• Sampling of seepage in the sump below Eagle Park Reservoir dam to establish current water
quality as a baseline and to confirm water quality objectives have been met; and
• Sampling recharge to the Eagle Park Reservoir from the Chalk Mountain Interceptor and the
North Interceptor canals.
This report consists of two separate SAPS to conduct investigations of 1) the reservoir bottom
materials, and 2) surface waters associated with the Eagle Park Reservoir. Each of the plans will
summarize the task objectives, number of samples and location, sample designations, sampling
equipment and procedures, analyses, and Quality Assurance/Quality Control (QA/QC)
procedures.
s
PRIVILEGED AND CONFIDENTIAL
C.VWXCZ116102-0OIW117610200116/W%l ?? ???
