However, in many years production may be less than
17,000,000 tons, and there may be years in which no production occurs.
5.1.2 Amount of Water Required. The amount of consumptive use water
required for average annual production of 17,000,000 tons of ore mined and milled is estimated
to be 5,772 acre feet. An estimate of the types and amounts of consumptive use is summarized
below:
Tyne of Consumptive Use Amount
Water trapped in tailing 3,050 of
Evaporation from tailing decant
water pool area 600 of
Evaporation from wetted tailing
impoundment beach areas 1,100 of
Reservoir evaporation 110 of
Product moisture and steam loss 120 of
Water trapped in waste rock 500 of
Miscellaneous water losses 30 of
Growth in tailing pool volume 262 of
Total: 5,772 of
The relative amounts of water consumed under each of the categories listed above may
vary, depending on milling practices, tailing pond configurations, operations of the Climax Mine
Open Pit and Underground Mine Levels, and other factors. Production of ore mined and milled
will be somewhat less than 17,000,000 tons in many, although not all, years. Based on historic
•
56642. WPD:5
