Fall 2010 Subsidence and Geologic Field Observations
Box Canyon, Apache Rocks, and South of Divide Mining Areas
• 3.0 TRAVERSES AND OBSERVATIONS IN THE BOX CANYON, APACHE
ROCKS, AND SOD MINING AREAS
A detailed discussion of observations associated with traverses A-A' through O-O' is provided in
this section (Maps 1 and 2). Many of the photographs taken during the October 2010 field visit
are included as figures in the text of this report. Where these images have notable differences
from comparable photographs taken in previous years, some of the older images are also
included for comparison purposes.
To reduce the overall size of this document, narrative text and photographs for traverses where
no noticeable change was observed are excluded. Photographs were obtained from each of the
photographic observation points (with the exception of Photographic Observation Points 6, 8 and
9 as discussed later in this section) and compared to the previous year for changes. If no changes
were noted, the photographic observation point images were archived and excluded from this
report.
•
3.1 Traverse A-A' Through H-H'
Traverses A-A' through H-H' were each visited during October 2010. It should noted, however,
that Traverse A-A' was cut short due to ongoing construction of a new coal refuse area which had
made the road impassable above a certain location. As a result, WWE was unable to visit the
Photographic Observation Points 8 and 8A to obtain comparative photographs of the landslides
on the western edge of West Flatiron.
Observation notes and photographic documentation were recorded along the subject traverses as
appropriate. However, no noticeable changes were observed between the spring and fall 2010
field visits (both as observed in the field and in comparison of photographs taken from each field
visit). As such, specific details associated with these traverses (i.e., topographic description,
overburden depth, exposed surficial materials, etc.) are not included in this report but can be
found in older versions of this semi-annual report (the most recent being the Fall 2009
• Subsidence and Geologic Field Observations report).
831-032.792 Wright Water Engineers, Inc.
