PERMIT #: M-2001-046
INSPECTOR'S INITIALS: MAC
INSPECTION DATE: March 30, 2011
OBSERVATIONS
The inspection was conducted by Michael Cunningham of the Division of Reclamation, Mining and Safety
(Division). The site is located approximately 4 miles west of Platteville, Colorado. The site is permitted for 160
acres and the post-mining land use is general agriculture.
Financial Warranty:
The Division currently holds a financial warranty in the amount of $317,000.00. The Operator anticipates
submitting an amendment to the Reclamation Permit later this year; the financial warranty will be
recalculated at that time.
Gen. Compliance With Mine Plan:
The Reclamation Permit for the Nix Sand and Gravel Mine was issued on May 30, 2003. The Division received
a request from the Operator to release 1.23 acres from the permit area on February 28, 2011. The purpose of
this inspection was to confirm that the area to be released had not been affected by mining. The Division
drove around the perimeter of the site and did not observe any mining activity; the site is currently being used
for agricultural purposes.
The area proposed for release is located in the southwest corner of the permit area, adjacent to Weld County
Road 17. This portion of the site is being released to accommodate a proposed conveyor route which will
connect the Heintzelman Pit (M-2009-018) and the Kurtz Resource Recovery and Land Development Project
(M-1999-006), both operated by Varra Companies, Inc.
Based on the observations of this inspection, the site has not been affected by mining and is eligible for
release. The request for an acreage reduction will be approved, notice of the Division's decision regarding the
acreage reduction will be sent under separate cover.
This concluded the inspection.
Inspection Contact Address
Bill Timmons
Ready Mixed Concrete Company
4395 Washington St.
Denver, CO 80216
CC: Michael Hart, Hart Environmental
