Use of pesticides will have prior written approval from the BLM.
E. Wildlife
The breeding period for migratory birds is April through June and for raptors is
February through July. The crucial big game winter range period is December 15
though Aprii. Proposed construction activities will be from Juiy 1 to December 1,
which is outside the crucial big game winter range period. Construction activity
will be allowed as approved by BLM during July because it is anticipated that
only minor impacts, if any, will result to raptors during this time. This seasonal
restriction applies only to construction related activity, i.e., road widening to
reduce existing curve radii and the addition of culverts to improve drainage at
specified locations as described in the Environmental Assessment (EA)
associated with this project, EA CO-150-2003-0020. All other road maintenance
activity is not subject to this restriction.
F. Cultural Resources
Any cultural and/or paleontological resource, human remains, funerary items,
sacred objects, or objects of cultural patrimony discovered will be immediately
reported to the BLM authorized officer. if such a discovery occurs, ali
maintenance activity will be suspended until further written notice to proceed is
received from the BLM.
G. Visual Resources
Road construction would result in temporary visual impacts as a result of
construction equipment. After the road maintenance upgrade and culvert
installation activities are completed, there would be no effects on visual
resources along Bear Creek Road. Road maintenance activities will be
accomplished utilizing best management practices such that disturbed areas will
be reclaimed to be the least environmentally impacting and to reduce visual
impacts.
H. Recreation Activities
Due to the steep terrain in the canyon and presence of private property at the
south end, interspersed along, and at the north end of Bear Creek Road, limited
public recreation activities occur in the area. Limited hiking and otf-road vehicle
use (4-wheelers) could occur on public land adjacent to the road. Hunting mainly
occurs on private land at the north end of the road. Due to the limited use of the
road and adjacent areas for recreational activities, road maintenance
construction activities are not expected to affect recreational activities in the area.
Road maintenance activities will be minimized during hunting seasons.
