Zuber, Rob
From: Zuber, Rob
Sent: Friday, October 15, 2010 2:54 PM
To: 'George Patterson'
Subject: Marr Species diversity
George -
Regarding Marr Mine's reclamation success standard, the Division is able to consider a revision to the species
diversity standard based upon pre-mining (baseline) data. It will need to be submitted as a technical revision
and will be evaluated under the provisions of Rule 4.15.7(2)(d).
These are the major points for KCC to emphasize in their revision:
• The remaining reclaimed 8.29 acres at the mine site all fall within one premining vegetation
community, that of the alkali sagebrush community. At the time of vegetation sampling in
2009, KCC asked if just the alkali sagebrush reference area could be sampled since the
remaining reclamation is 100 percent alkali sagebrush community pre-law. The Division
agreed that just the alkali sagebrush reference area could be sampled for comparison to the
reclaimed area.
• The remaining 8.29 acres is a small portion of the entire reclaimed mine area, approximately
2% of the mine site disturbance.
• The majority of the mine site (98% by area) has achieved successful reclamation (see SL-04).
Please let me know if you need additional information.
Regards,
Rob
Rob Zuber, P.E.
Environmental Protection Specialist
Division of Reclamation, Mining and Safety
Coal Program
1313 Sherman Street, Room 215
Denver, CO 80203
Phone: 303.866.3567 x8113
