It is .the responsibility of the CDOW to ensure that the wildlife resources of the State of Colorado are
addressed and protected for the enjoyment of the public. CDOW has reviewed TR-68 and offers the following
comments:.... .
• Deserado Mine has applied to add an additional 3.47 acres of disturbance within the mine permit
boundary. This is to accomplish the establishment of a dewatering system for the B-Seam workings. This
action will result in pumping water through an existing service hole into a series of treatment ponds.
Ultimately, the water will be discharged into a natural draining.
• Discharge of water into the drainage is regulated by the permit and must meet the water quality
parameters for discharge. CDOW recommends that this be strictly enforced. Any surface water discharge
is beneficial to wildlife, especially in the and regions of western Rio Blanco County. It is paramount that
careful controls be implemented to ensure contaminated water is not discharged. Given that the mine
permit addresses this practice, the CDOW does not oppose the approval of this action.
If you have any further questions and/or comments, please feel free to contact Terry Wygant, District Wildlife
manager, at (970)878-6070.
Thank you,
Bill deVergie
Area Wildlife Manager
..
Meeker Service Center..
PO Box 1181
Meeker, Colorado 81641.
DEPARTMENT OF NATURAL RESOURCES, Mike King, Executive Director
WILDLIFE COMMISSION, Tim Glenn, Chair • Robert Streeter, Vice Chair • Mark Smith, Secretary
Members, David R.
