Topsoil Stockpiles There are currently two (2) topsoil stockpiles within
the Southfield Mine area designated as Pile No. M-2 and Parking Lot Pile.
Existing topsoil pile locations are shown to the Mine Area Soil Map, (Map
14). Stockpile M-2, located northwest of the Refuse Disposal Area, contains
approximately 1,000 cubic yards of "A" horizon material which were recovered
from the refuse stockpile foundation and the Ponds 3 and 4 area. The Parking
Lot Topsoil pile is located at the west end of the facility area Parking
Lot(Light Use Road adjacent to County Road 92. This stockpile contains
approximately 130 cubic yards of "A" horizon material moved from former
Topsoil Pile M-1.
Within the loadout area, all topsoil from the original two topsoil piles was
utilized to achieve required topsoil replacement depths during final
reclamation of the site in 1996/1997.
Existing topsoil stockpiles have been located and oriented to ensure long
term stability, minimize wind and water erosion, and prevent contamination
or compaction of topsoil resources. Drainage from existing topsoil stockpiles
is controlled be rough graded stockpile surfaces, and, as appropriate,
temporary vegetative establishment. Drainage from Stockpile M-2 is collected
and routed to existing Sediment Pond 4 as illustrated by the Southfield
Reclamation Plan Map, (Map 33). Drainage from the Parking Lot Area topsoil
stockpile will join the sheet flow runoff from the surrounding facilities
area and flow into Sediment Pond 5.
2.05.3-38 Revised 5/13/04
Permit Renewal RN-04
