It is the responsibility of the CDOW to ensure that the wildlife resources of the State of Colorado are
addressed and protected for the enjoyment of the public. CDOW has reviewed the application for permit no. M-
1979-142 and offers the following comments:
• This application is to expand the existing pit from 24.62 acres to 39.50 acres. A net increase of 14.88
acres. This pit is located in habitats suitable for wildlife, specifically big game. The existing pit does not
appear to cause undue stress on the wildlife in the area, therefore the expansion should not increase the
level of disturbance the area already has.
• CDOW recommends that post mining reclamation should recreate the conditions exhibited in the
undisturbed areas adjacent to the permit boundary and interim reclamation on previously disturbed areas
where there is no longer mining activity shall be completed. Control of noxious weeds shall be
implemented and reseeding of native grasses, fortis and shrubs shall be used.
• The CDOW does not oppose the approval of this action.
If you have any further questions and/or comm please feel free to contact Justin Olson, District Wildlife
Manager, at (970)878-6066.
Thank you,
-/-:? ?? e ? e ?19 ? ?
Bill deVergie
Area Wildlife Manager
Meeker Service Center
PO Box 1181
Meeker, Colorado 81641
DEPARTMENT OF NATURAL RESOURCES, Mike King, Executive Director
WILDLIFE COMMISSION, Tim Glenn, Chair • Robert Streeter, Vice Chair • Mark Smith, Secretary
Members, David R.
