Hickenlooper
Governor
Mike King
Executive Director
Loretta Pineda
Director
Re: Revised Slope Stability Analyses Review for Goose Haven Reservoir No. 2,
Permit No. M-2010-071
The Division of Reclamation, Mining and Safety engineering staff (DRMS) have reviewed the
revised Slope Stability analyses submitted with the February 28, 2011 permit application for the
Goose Haven Reservoir No. 2, Boulder County, Colorado prepared by the City of Lafayette.
The review consisted of comparing the revised application content with comments provided by
DRMS in the initial memorandum, dated February 4, 2011. While DRMS noted some minor
errors and discrepancies: 1) the crest elevation is mislabeled as "EL. 5,055" instead of 5,071 on
Figures C-12 through C-C-16; and 2) it is unclear whether a density of 142 pcf (Figure C-1) or
145 pcf (Figure C-22) was used to represent bedrock density in the models, these are not
expected to yield any meaningful differences in the results of the current analyses. Therefore,
based on information provided in the revised package on February 28, 2011, and the subject
stability analyses results, DRMS has determined the mine slopes proposed for the Goose Haven
Reservoir No. 2 should be adequately stable and are protective of nearby infrastructure (e.g.,
ditches and power lines) and can be approved pursuant to Rule 6.5.

Office of Office of
Mined Land Reclamation Denver • Grand Junction • Durango Active and Inactive Mines
