Abstract
At the request of Bowie Resources, LLC (as represented by J.E. Stover and
Associates), and the Bureau of Land Management Uncompaghre Field Office (BLM), a
Class III cultural resource block inventory of approximately 1540 acres (BLM 420; Private
1120) of land related to portions of Federal Coal Leases C- 37210, C -27432 and D- 036955
was conducted by Grand River Institute (GRI). Additionally, at the request of the State
Historic Preservation Officer, site 5DT1538, located outside of the present Class III survey
boundaries, was revisited and reevaluated. The prefield check -in was conducted on the 1St of
June 2010 and fieldwork was performed between the 1St and 21S of June 2010. The
fieldwork was conducted by Carl Conner, Curtis Martin, Michael Brown, Dana Archuleta,
and Jim Conner. Carl E. Conner, Principal Investigator, and Barbara Davenport prepared the
final report.
The inventory was undertaken to ensure the project's compliance with federal
legislation governing the identification and protection of cultural resources. The purposes of
this investigation were to identify resources within the project area likely to be affected by
the proposed action, to evaluate these sites' eligibility for listing on in the National Register
of Historic Places (NRHP), and to make management recommendations for those sites found
to be eligible or potentially eligible.
The files search identified three previously recorded sites (5DT93, 5DT94, and
5DT95), within the inventory area. These were reevaluated, as was 5DT1538. In addition,
two sites (5DT1795.1 and 5DT1796) and two isolated finds (5DT1797 and 5DT1798) were
newly recorded. All the sites and isolated finds were field evaluated as not eligible and
should be given no further consideration.
11 4)
