•
deteriorated condition and lack of integrity, it is field recommended as not eligible for listing
on the National Register of Historic Places. No further work is recommended.
The site 5DT95 location of an historic homestead, was previously recorded by
Centuries Research, Inc. in 1977 (Baker 1977). The location, as it appears on the USGS
topographic quadrangle attached to the original site documents, was field visited by Grand
River Institute crew members on 6/1/10. They were unable to find the site in this location.
The search area was then expanded, radiating from the suspected location to cover the entire
immediate area, which also concluded with negative results. The crew then followed
topographic directions found under the heading "Location/Access" on the original CPO site
form in combination with the site sketch map, but again had no success. The entire
surrounding system of open meadows was inspected during subsequent days of survey, but
nothing resembling this site was observed.
Evaluation and Management Recommendations
Since the site could not be located, its field evaluation is not eligible. Accordingly, it
should given no further consideration.
Site 5DT1538, an open architectural site, was revisited for the determination of
cultural affiliation and assessment of current condition and eligibility to the National Resister
of Historic Places. Presently, the possible historic lean -to feature has suffered total collapse
since its recording on 7/29/04.
Despite its condition, during this revisit an Aboriginal Wood Feature Component
Form was completed for the feature. In addition, the surrounding area was intensively
surveyed for artifacts, an activity which included the use of a metal detector. Three
dendrochronological samples were taken from poles that formed the structure and will be
processed for dating by the Laboratory of Tree -Ring Research, University of Arizona,
Tucson. No artifacts or thermal features were found, and there is no apparent depth of
cultural fill.
Evaluation and Management Recommendations
Based on the deteriorated condition of the feature (lack of integrity), and its lack of
chronometric indicators or potential indicators (thermal features), this site is field evaluated
as not eligible for listing on the NRHP. No further work is recommended.
Site 5DT1795.1 consists of a buried segment of the Pitkin Mesa Domestic Pipeline
(1.3 miles) and an associated water diversion feature (F 1). The pipeline is situated in the
bottom of Stevens Gulch and the feature is located in a shallow saddle north of an open
meadow near the head of Stevens Gulch.
•
7
