2.04.7 Hydrology Description
• iron was 6.4 mg /I with a range of 0.05 to 17.2 mg /I and average manganese
was 0.184 mg /I with a range of below detectable limits to 0.507 mg /I. Well
TC -03 -03 has had a pinched casing since 2006 and the well is scheduled to
be abandoned.
During July and August 2010 exploration hole DH- 2010 -2 was drilled. The
hole is located on private land owned by the Turkey Track Ranch. This
private landowner consented to the Applicant drilling the exploration hole but
would not consent to the hole being converted into a monitoring well. The
Applicant closely monitored this hole for groundwater inflows. At a depth of
1,400 feet there was indication of groundwater inflow. The Applicant set a
packer below the water bearing zone and collected a sample. Total dissolved
solids were 980 mg /I, ph was 9.1, total iron was 184.0 mg /I and manganese
was 2.42 mg /I. The coal seam is at a depth of 2,054 feet. The coal seam
was dry. A monitoring well was not established because the Applicant did
not have long term access. Additionally, monitoring a well that is 2,054 feet
deep is not technically or economically feasible.
CWI -DH -58 and CWI -DH -60 are up gradient monitoring wells installed by the
Bowie No. 1 Mine. Completion diagrams for the two wells are included in
Volume III, Exhibit 3.
CWI -DH -60 was perforated at six different intervals with the top perforation
being the upper B -Seam. The well was monitored for depth to water from
July 21, 1983 until October 04, 1990. Generally the water depth was about
1,000 feet which is slightly above the upper B -Seam. One mixed aquifer
water quality sample was obtained on August 22, 1983. Conductivity was
7,560 umhos /cm, ph was not available, total iron was 0.58 mg /I and
manganese was 0.09 mg /I. The Applicant cemented CDW -DH -60 from the
bottom of the well to the bottom of the B -Seam in September 2010. Based
on monitoring after the cement job, the B -Seam is dry at this location.
CWI -DH -58 was perforated at eight different intervals with the second from
the top perforation being the upper B -Seam. CWI -DH -58 was monitored
from January, 1983 though October 11, 1990. The hole was reported as
being dry during the period of record. The Applicant removed tubing from
the well during August 2010 so it could confirm prior monitoring data. The
Applicant confirmed CWI -DH -58 was dry to a level below the B -Seam.
During 2011 the Applicant will install and additional monitoring well (2010 -1) to
provide down gradient monitoring for the western mining district. Monitoring well
2010 -1 will be completed in the B -Seam at a depth of approximately 1,200 feet
and in a sandstone water bearing zone above the B -Seam. This sandstone
water bearing zone above the B -Seam was identified and is monitored at wells
TC -03 -02 and TC- 03 -03. The Applicant has not decided whether to complete a
nested well or drill two separate monitoring wells at the same location.
PR -12 2.04 - 32i - 11/10/10
A M'dVa.
//1l6 //a
