2.04.6
(3)(a)(iii)(E)
•
is
PR -12
APPRovQ>
l VICP o
The clay content in the roof, interburden and floor is quite low ranging
between 7 and 12 percent. Therefore, engineering properties of clay and
clay shale in the stratum immediately above and below the coal seam to be
mined is not deemed necessary.
Total sulfur content of the coal seam mined at the Bowie No. 1 mine is
generally below 0.5% with the following sulfur forms present:
pyritic sulfur = 0.02%
sulfate = 0.00%
organic sulfur = 0.38%
as received basis. Low concentrations of the potentially reactive sulfides
(pyrite or the polymorph marcarsite) seemingly preclude any potential for
acidic mine drainage.
Roof, floor, and interburden samples representative of waste rock at the
Bowie No. 1 Mine have been collected and analyzed employing the
Division's guidelines. The samples are located in Volume III, Tab 6. These
analyses also show the same low sulfur content. The sodium adsorption ratio
exceeds the recommended value for root zone material. This indicates that
in order to vegetate refuse material, it will have to be covered with suitable
plant growth media.
2.04-26- 07/10
