• Iron Point <br />Page Two <br />5-24.00 <br />known historic nest sites for golden eagles. Literature review for seasonal distribution, <br />migration, breeding, nesting and fledging periods and habitat needs forTB E sensitive <br />species and occurrence probabilities was done. Each site was transected and visually <br />inspected. Sites with raptor habitat potential were surveyed with a'/~ mile radius. <br />The Record of Decision for the North Fork Coal Iron Point Exploration License (Page 4) <br />approved 18 coal exploration holes. Of those 18 holes, we surveyed IPP99.7, IPP99.23.27, <br />IPP99.8 and IPP99.10 for this submittal. The Forest Service is currently reviewing the <br />clearance status of IPP99-9 as the ROD map (Figure 2) shows it as being approved, but the <br />Decision write-upon page 4 does not If clearance is obtained, it will be submitted as an <br />amendment to this document. <br />Areas within a 400 foot radius of drill holes IPP99.7, 23-27, 8, and10 were surveyed for the <br />following Threatened, Endangered and other Species of Concern for both state and federal <br />• listings: (EIS Page 3.106) <br />Mammals: Spotted bat, Townsend's big-eared bat and Fringed myotis <br />• Birds: Flammulated owl, three-toed woodpecker, blacks swift, olive-sided <br />flycatcher, southwestern willow flycatcher, golden-crowned kinglet and Loggerhead <br />shrike. <br />Amphibians and Reptiles: Tiger salamander, boreal toad and northern leopard frog. <br />The same 400 foot radii were surveyed for the following migratory bird species of high <br />federal andlor state interest: (EIS Page C-8) <br />Band•tailed pigeon, great blue heron, Lewis woodpecker and wltiamson's <br />sapsucker. <br />A'/:mile radius was surveyed on the above referenced drill holes plus those in Freeman <br />Gulch (GVB D3-A, GVB D4-A, GVB D2-B, GVB D3-B, GVB D2•C and GVB D3-C) for the <br />following Threatened, Endangered and Other Species of Concern raptors: (EIS Page C•8) <br />Bald eagle and northern goshawk. <br />The same'F~ mile radius was surveyed for the folbwing raptors which are listed in the <br />migratory bird species of high federal andlor state interest (EIS Page C-8) <br />Coopers hawk, golden eagle, peregrine falcon and prairie falcon. <br />• None of the above species nests or habitation were found within the prescribed distance <br />limits, and none of the species were found with exception of three golden eagles which <br />7~-17 <br />
