Laboratory Analyses of Soil Pedons - The results of these analyses are <br />shown in Tables 2 and 3. • <br />No detrimental chemical properties were detected in any of the soil <br />or stockpile samples. The primary constraints to use for topsoiling <br />purposes are texture and degree of stoniness. <br />The Binco clay has 50-70~ of chiefly montmorillinitic clays and can <br />be expected to have high shrink/swell characteristics, high plas- <br />ticity, very slow permeability and to be difficult to handle as a <br />topsoil material. The Aaberg clay samples showed 47-62~ clay and <br />appeared to have higher organic matter in the A horizon although no <br />organic matter analyses were made by the Company. Both soils are <br />classified as poor grade topsoil material by WDEQ and SCS stand- <br />ards.l/ <br />All the other soils were clay looms, looms and sandy looms and <br />offered no real problem for topsoiling other than depth over bed- • <br />rock or the presence of sandstones and rock fragments in the soil <br />profile in varying quantities. <br />1/ WDEQ = Wyoming Department of Environmental Quality; SCS = USDA <br />Soil Conservation Service. <br /> <br />-28- <br />
