• SOIL DISTRIBUTION AND EXTENT
The soil pattern of the 2000-acre tract is shown on Map 1 at a scale
of 1 inch = 400 feet. The major soil unit, Winevada-Splitro looms,
occupies 50.6$ of the area. This map unit occurs widely distributed
over the area and on all slopes from Se to over 50~.
Aaberg clays are the second most extensive soil, occupying 13.168 of
the mapped area.
Skylick looms and clay looms occupy 12.5$ of the mapped area on
slopes of 20 to over 40$ on rolling to hilly topography and along
two major stream courses.
Other soils and extent are: Mixed Cryoborolls 8.68, Binco clay
7.88 and mixed Alluvium 3.OB.Sma11 rock and shale exposures are
intermingled among these soils and occupy an estimated 1701 acres on
• about 8.98 of the total area. Only 6.4 acres were separately mapped
as rockland because of the wide distribution in the form of small
outcrops not practical to separate from surrounding soils.
The Winevada-Splitro soils on sandstone formations cover a large area
of high plateaus and hills in the eastern 2/3 of the tract and extend
from elevations of 6850 in the southern part to over 8000 feet in the
northeastern corner.
Most of the other soils are associated with this high ridge to
plateau and drainageways arising from two major peaks. Near the
northeast corner of the project an 8000 foot ridge gives rise to drains
flowing N-NE E-SE and Westward. The westerly drains are dominant
and over 2/3 of the area drains westerly-northwesterly into the major
valley along the west side of the project. This valley leaves the
project at the extreme northwest corner at an elevation of about 6550
• feet. In the south central part at about coordinates 2940s-1470e
is a peak of 7363 feet from which streams flow S-SW E-SE and N-NW.
-25-
