Nichols Letter response.
Dear Dustin:
When Jack, Jr. and Barbara Clark purchased the property where
their shop, house, pit 1 & 2 are located was void of all
buildings or signs of the original townsite. The Hamlet Mine
Complex is owned by Fred Reece (adjacent property owner). The
Clark's have made a commitment to keep the historic railroad
grade, which passes through their property in tack and
undisturbed. All of the surface which is part of the proposed
112 conversion has been disturbed by the previous owners and
the recent mining activities.
The Clark's welcome any inspection by the State Historical
Office and any advice on how to locate and protect any additional
historical sites at their location. If any potential historic
sites are encountered during future mining activities work
will be stopped and the State will be notified.
In the matter of water use from pit 1 I have enclosed a copy of
the state engineers letter concerning the pit 1 well. If a
state or other large gravel contract should be awarded to the
Clark's a new well permit will be applied for so additional
water amounts and uses will be identified and requested.
Sincerely,
Charles R. Ponchak for
Upper Animas Sand & Gravel
