PERMIT #: M-2007-001
INSPECTOR'S INITIALS: ECS
INSPECTION DATE: March 10, 2011
OBSERVATIONS
This was a routine monitoring inspection for the Corliss Sand Pit, a Ritchey Redi-Mix 110c permit, conducted
by Eric Scott of DRMS. DRMS traveled with Operator Jerry Ritchey to the site, and observed the site with him
at approximately 1145.
This is a sand pit site that has been intermittently active based on the need for material. The mining site
identification sign and permit markers were present at the time of the inspection. The disturbed area is currently
only about 1.5 acres of the 9.9 acres permitted at this location. Mining appears to be proceeding according to
the approved plan.
The operator, Mr. Ritchey, stated that the material was not as useful as he had originally anticipated, and that he
has given thought to stockpiling some material off-site and closing the pit. Due to the small area of disturbance,
it should be a simple matter to re-slope the area properly; however, it may take some concerted effort to
establish stable, weed-free vegetation in such a sandy area. Cattle and recreational users (4-wheelers) will also
need to be excluded from the disturbed area until the vegetation can establish. The site map should also be
updated as appropriate to reflect the current site conditions, and submitted with the next annual report for the
site. No other issues were noted during this inspection.
