PERMIT #: M-2005-060
INSPECTOR'S INITIALS: ECS
INSPECTION DATE: March 10, 2011
OBSERVATIONS
This was a monitoring/pre-operational I I2c conversion inspection for the Ashbaugh Pit, a proposed Weld
County 112c sand and gravel operation, conducted by Eric Scott of DBMS. DRMS met Weld County Engineer
David Bauer and Mining Supervisor Jay McDonald at the site, and observed the site with them at approximately
1400.
The proposed permit area encompasses an existing 110c permit and the site entrance is located on the west side
of county road 115, southwest of the town of New Raymer. Weld County is permitting an additional 129.7
acres at this location for a total permit area of 139.7 acres. The mining site sign was observed at the existing
site entrance location. The extent of the current site was mostly defined by T-post markers, but a few posts
need to be replaced until the new permit boundary is approved. The extent of the proposed 112c will also need
to be surveyed in and marked out.
The site is relatively level to rolling hilly ground and is currently rangeland. Only one man-made feature was
noted within or within 200 feet of the proposed permit limits - a gas line of undetermined ownership and status
is marked running through the proposed permit area from NW to SE. Weld County is currently proposing a
200' buffer zone around the gas line corridor markers to maintain sufficient distance to prevent possible impacts
from mining activities until it can be determined who owns the line and if it is still in service. It will need to be
determined during the application adequacy process how this pipeline crossing will be dealt with.
The entire site (other than the existing 110c permit area) is currently rangeland. Grazing may to continue on
areas of the site that are not being actively mined. No other features or man-made structures of note were
observed in the proposed 112 permit area during this inspection.
Inspection Contact Address
David Bauer - County Engineer
Weld County
1111 H St.
Greeley, CO 80632
