Lake Durango Water Authority
PO Box 657
Durango, CO 81302
970-247-4062
Department of Natural Resources
Division of Reclamation, Mining and Safety
Wally Erickson
691 County Road 233 Ste. A-2
Durango, CO 81301
Re: CDRMS File: M-1981-185
Dear Mr. Erickson,
IRCIVED
MAR 0 2 2011
Ourango Field Office
O vision of Recta ation„
m?q and Safety.
The Lake Durango Water Authority (Authority) is a Colorado Water Authority that provides treated
water to 1200 homes in La Plata County. Raw water for the Authority's water treatment plant is diverted
from the La Plata River and delivered to Lake Durango Reservoir via the Pine Ridge Ditch. The diversion
is located approximately 4 miles downstream of the proposed Wildcat Mine.
The Authority Board of Directors understands that Wildcat Mining Corp. has applied to the Colorado
Division of Reclamation, Mining and Safety for a 112d permit which indicates that the mine may use
toxic or acid forming materials, and has likely potential to release contaminants. Any review of the
permit should consider the proximity of the mine operations to the raw water supply for the Authority
and any potential impacts mining operations would have on the safety and quality of water delivered to
Lake Durango Reservoir.
The Board of the Lake Durango Water Authority would like to be kept up to date with all permitting
actions related to the Wildcat Mine. Please send updates to:
Lake Durango Water Authority
Attn: Charlie Smith, General Manger
PO Box 657
Durango, CO 81302
manager@lakedurango.org
Sincerely,
Ward Holmes
President
Cc: Eric Aune
