a € OFFICE of ARCHAEOLOGY and HISTORIC PRESERVATION
February 20, 2008
Tom Kaldenbach RECEIVED
Environmental Protection Specialist
Division of Reclamation, Mining and Safety FEB 2 5 2008
Department of Natural Resources Division cif Reclamation,
1313 Sherman Street, Room 215, Mining and Safety
Denver, Colorado 80203
Re: Carbon junction Mine (Permit No. C-1992-080)
Permit Renewal Application No. 3 (RN-3) (CHS # 51909)
Dear Mr. Kaldenbach:
Thank you for your correspondence dated February 12, 2008 (received by our office on
February 15) concerning the project listed above.
Because the renewal application proposes to continue reclamation operations at this inactive
mine and does not increase the area scheduled for surface or mining-related disturbances
beyond that which has previously been reviewed, it is our opinion that the permit renewal will
have no effect on historic properties.
If archaeological resources are discovered during project activities, workimust be interrupted
until the resources have been evaluated in terms of the National Register of Historic Places
eligibility criteria (36 CFR 60.4) in consultation with our office.
Thank you for the opportunity to comment. If use may be of further assistance, please contact
Greg Wolff, Compliance Coordinator, at (303) 866-4674.
Sincerely,
/ -
'--' A Georgianna Contiguglia
State Historic Preservation Officer
GC/GAW

1300 BROADWAY DENVER COLORADO 80203 TEL 303/866-3395 FAx 303/866-2711 www.coloradohistory-oahp.org
